Enter Wadlington and The Nine Muses, a large-scale tribute to the mythological goddesses of inspiration. First unveiled on March 16, 2023, under the title Kleio 3:16 — a nod to the Muse of History — the painting draws heavily on Renaissance style and symbolism. Wadlington places himself within the scene, dreaming his way into a world of these nine muses. Hidden details reward a closer look, from a blind eye on each cherub to a tattoo on Zeus's hand and a one-eyed Medusa stone in the corner. The painting balances masculine and feminine symbols throughout, from a pyramid to an aqua-colored sheet, and touches on themes of life and death, strength and beauty, and light and dark.
